Leaks, water and Phoenix, explained

There are no articles here yet. Rather than pad the page out with filler, here is where the genuinely useful writing on this site already lives.

The three pages worth your time today

These are not blog posts. They are the working guides we send people to before we drive out, and each one can save you part of a visit.

A backyard swimming pool in Phoenix at the water line

The bucket test

Ten minutes, a bucket and a pool step will tell you whether your pool is really losing water or whether it is just Phoenix. Includes the step most people skip: running it once with the equipment on and once with it off.

Why your water bill jumped

How to read a bill that climbed with nothing else changing, why most of the water a Valley home uses goes outdoors, and where an invisible leak usually hides.

Equipment or structure?

Where the water is going, worked out before anybody drains anything or opens up a deck. This is the question that decides how the whole job is approached.

What this page is for

What will go here, and what will not

When there is something worth writing, it will appear here with the date on it.

What we expect to write about

  • Evaporation month by month in the Valley, and why the old quarter-inch-a-day rule was not written for a Phoenix summer.
  • Flood irrigation: where the utility's responsibility stops and the homeowner's pipe starts.
  • Winter water use, and how some Valley cities carry it into every bill for the rest of the year.
  • What the monsoon does to irrigation, pool decks and buried lines.
  • Build eras across the metro, and what each one tends to put under a slab.
  • Jobs, once there are photographs worth showing.

What will not go here

  • Posts written to hit a keyword and nothing else.
  • Anything we cannot stand behind on a job site.
  • Advice that belongs to a trade we do not work in. Leak detection and leak repair is all we do. We are not a general plumbing company — no sewer work, no gas lines, no water heaters, no drain cleaning, no fixture or appliance installs. If it is not a leak, we will tell you that too.

In the meantime

If you have a question this site does not answer, ask it directly — a phone call or a text with a photo gets you a real answer faster than any article would. Contact us.

A question beats an article

Text a photo of the pool, the equipment pad, the meter or the damp spot and you will get a straight answer about what is likely going on.

What customers in the Phoenix valley have written. The words are theirs, on listings we cannot edit.

“Humberto has been amazing! Prompt, professional, and patient. He has gone above and beyond, taking the time to show me how to operate the water valves and educating me so I can continue to monitor for future leaks. He identified multiple leaks and made thoughtful recommendations.”

“Beto was very professional, thorough and patient in explaining everything he was doing and why. It was an excellent and well worth it experience, and this is saying something for an architect who had a hundred questions!”

“The owner and operator of this company is everything a contractor should be. On time, honest, competent, reachable, comprehensive. Hope to work with him again in the future.”
